The course covers the latest in crash data retrieval methods from all the supported manufacturers to include, but not necessarily limited to GM, Chrysler, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Suzuki, BMW, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, VW, and Subaru. The curriculum introduces police/law enforcement, insurance investigators, and automotive industry professional to the download and preliminary examination of Event Data Recorders via the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval Tool. The two-day Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) Technician course, developed by the Collision Safety Institute, has a broad application. When examined along with other available physical evidence from the crash, the vehicle crash data can provide a much clearer understanding of what happened before, during and after the crash. The crash data is unbiased, validated and defensible. Technically referred to as an Event Data Recorder (EDR), this “black box data” is one of the most important pieces of evidence to be collected and evaluated as part of a crash investigation. Often, vehicle crash data is stored in the airbag control module, powertrain control module or rollover sensor after a crash.
